Seed the Change!
Seeds of Diversity Canada estimates that nearly 75% of vegetable varieties have disappeared. 25% of native plants are at risk and diversity in flower gardens is shrinking.

About Marshmallow
Marshmallow is a beautiful and useful perennial herb known for its soothing, mucilaginous roots and soft, velvety foliage. Its upright stems produce delicate pale pink flowers that add charm to both medicinal and ornamental gardens. Once a key ingredient in making traditional marshmallows, the root continues to be used in teas and herbal remedies to soothe sore throats and digestive issues. This plant thrives in moist soil and is a favourite of pollinators.
Where Can You Grow Marshmallow?
Best suited for Zones 3–9, Marshmallow prefers moist, fertile, well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. Ideal for herb gardens, borders, or wet garden spots where it can spread slightly and return year after year.
History and Historical Uses
Native to Europe and Western Asia, marshmallow has a long history of culinary and medicinal use. Traditionally used in herbal medicine for its demulcent properties, it was also used in early recipes for marshmallows, long before commercial confections became the norm. Today, it remains valued for its gentle, healing properties and its ornamental appeal.
