Where Can You Grow Rudbeckia?
Best suited to Zones 3–9, Rudbeckia grows well in full sun and tolerates a range of soil types. It performs particularly well in moderately dry or well-drained soils and is an excellent choice for borders, wildflower meadows, or container gardens.

Canadian Zone Information
Zones 8-9: Direct sow in autumn or early spring for robust flowering.
Zones 5-7: Start indoors or direct sow in spring after frost risk has passed.
Zones 3-4: Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost; harden off before transplanting.

How to Grow and Harvest Rudbeckia

Planting: Sow seeds 3mm (1/8in) deep, 30-45cm (12-18in) apart in well-drained soil.
Watering: Water regularly until established, then reduce to occasional deep watering.
Harvesting: Cut blooms regularly to promote continuous flowering; leave some for seed.
Maintenance: Deadhead to prolong blooming or leave seed heads for birds and reseeding.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply

Select Flower Heads: Allow seed heads to fully dry on the plant.
Harvest Seeds: Cut and bag seed heads when dry; shake to release seeds.
Dry and Store: Further dry seeds indoors if needed; clean and label.
Store: Keep in airtight containers in a cool, dry place; viable for up to 4 years.
