Growing Information

About Alstroemeria
Alstroemeria, also known as Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, is a show-stopping garden perennial renowned for its dazzling flowers that come in an array of pinks, oranges, yellows, purples, and whites, often marked with streaks or speckles. Each plant sends up multiple flower stalks from underground tubers, with blooms that last well in the garden and even longer in vases. Though native to South America, Alstroemeria adapts well to temperate climates and provides weeks of beauty once established.

Where Can You Grow Alstroemeria?
Best suited to Zones 7-10 for overwintering outdoors, Alstroemeria can also be grown as an annual or lifted and stored in colder regions. Prefers full sun to part shade and rich, well-draining soil. Excellent in raised beds, borders, and large containers.

History and Historical Uses
Native to the Andes of Chile, Brazil, and Peru, Alstroemeria has become a favourite in cut-flower production worldwide. It was introduced to Europe in the 18th century and bred extensively for its unique floral patterns and strong vase life, earning it a place in floral arrangements, wedding bouquets, and formal gardens.
