About Fringecup
Fringecup is a beautiful native perennial found in moist woodland areas and shaded slopes throughout the Pacific Northwest. This plant is admired for its delicate, fringed green-white flowers, which bloom on slender stalks in late spring to early summer, rising above low rosettes of softly lobed leaves. A gentle spreader, it is perfect for shady borders, native plantings, and woodland gardens. Fringecup also supports native pollinators and contributes to the ecological diversity of shade gardens.

Where Can You Grow Fringecup?
Best suited for Zones 4–9, Fringecup thrives in moist, humus-rich soil with part to full shade. Ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalised areas, it also performs well in containers or rain gardens with adequate drainage.

History and Historical Uses
Traditionally used by Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest for a variety of medicinal applications, Fringecup has played a role in both herbal remedies and cultural landscape practices. Its subtle beauty and ability to stabilise soils in shady areas have made it a valued species in ecological restoration projects.

Canadian Zone Information
Zones 8-9: Direct sow in fall or start indoors and transplant to shady, moist sites in spring.
Zones 5-7: Cold stratify seeds for 4–6 weeks before sowing; transplant into rich, shaded soil.
Zone 4: Needs winter mulch or sheltered microclimate; plant in moist shade for best results.

How to Grow and Harvest Fringecup
Planting: Sow seeds on surface of moist soil in fall or after cold stratification.
Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture during establishment.
Harvesting: While not typically harvested for ornamental or culinary use, plants can be divided every few years.
Maintenance: Low-maintenance; mulch lightly in summer to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply
Collect Seeds: Allow flower stalks to dry on the plant, then collect seed heads.
Clean Seeds: Shake out seeds from dry pods and remove excess plant material.
Dry and Store: Store seeds in a cool, dry place for up to 3 years.
Viability: Best sown fresh or after cold stratification for strong germination.
