About Gold Nugget Tomato
Gold Nugget Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a highly productive cherry tomato variety that stands out for its early ripening and continuous fruiting. One of the first tomatoes to mature in coastal gardens, this variety is known for producing abundant clusters of 2.5 cm yellow fruit with a sweet, mild flavour and low acidity.
These vigorous, indeterminate plants grow tall and benefit from staking or caging for support. When picked regularly, Gold Nugget will continue to outproduce many other cherry tomato varieties, making it a favourite for fresh garden snacking, salads, and summer dishes.
Where Can You Grow Gold Nugget Tomato?
Gold Nugget thrives in Zones 3-9, preferring full sun and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. It grows well in raised beds, garden borders, and containers.
History and Historical Uses
Originally developed in the United States, Gold Nugget quickly became popular for its early harvest and exceptional productivity. Its low acidity and sweet flavour have made it a top choice for home gardeners looking for a reliable, high-yielding cherry tomato variety.
