Seed the Change!
Seeds of Diversity Canada estimates that nearly 75% of vegetable varieties have disappeared. 25% of native plants are at risk and diversity in flower gardens is shrinking.
We are working to restore the biodiversity that was once common in gardens, farms, and nature around Canada!

About Poppy Mix
Our Poppy Mix is a vibrant and diverse collection of poppies that adds colour, texture, and elegance to your garden all summer long. With a range of colours and bloom shapes, these hardy annuals thrive in sunny locations and provide food for pollinators while offering long-lasting visual interest. They are perfect for wildflower plantings, borders, and cut flower arrangements. The fine roots of young seedlings do not transplant well, so it's best to sow seeds directly where you want them to flourish. Once established, they self-seed easily, returning year after year with joyful abandon.
Where Can You Grow Poppy Mix?
This mix performs best in Zones 3-9, preferring full sun and well-drained soil. Suitable for naturalised meadows, borders, and any space where a touch of wild beauty is welcome.
History and Historical Uses
Poppies have a long tradition in ornamental gardens and cultural symbolism, celebrated for their beauty and resilience. Their ease of care and natural self-seeding habit made them a popular staple in traditional cottage and wildflower gardens.
Canadian Zone Information
Zones 8-9: Direct seed in autumn or early spring for early blooms.
Zones 5-7: Direct seed in spring after the last frost.
Zones 3-4: Direct seed in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked.
How to Grow and Harvest Poppy Mix
Planting: Sow seeds 3mm (1/8in) deep directly into prepared soil in a sunny spot.
Watering: Keep soil moist until germination, then water sparingly; poppies are drought-tolerant.
Harvesting: Enjoy blooms throughout the season; flowers make lovely cut stems when picked early.
Maintenance: Allow seed heads to mature for natural reseeding or collect seeds to share.
Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply
Let Seed Heads Mature: Allow some flowers to dry on the plant and form seed pods.
Collect Seeds: Once pods are brown and dry, shake out seeds into a paper bag.
Dry and Store: Let seeds air-dry fully before sealing in a container.
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, dry place; viable for up to 4 years.
