About Rosa Bianca Eggplant
Rosa Bianca is a truly stunning Italian heirloom eggplant prized for its creamy-white skin streaked with blushes of soft lavender and lilac. The fruit are round to slightly oval, with subtle ribbing and a compact shape that makes them stand out in the garden. Known for their mild, non-bitter flavour and creamy texture, they’re a top choice for grilling, roasting, or stuffing. This heat-loving plant thrives in warm, sheltered spots such as greenhouses or large patio containers.

Where Can You Grow Rosa Bianca Eggplant?
Best suited to Zones 4–9 in full sun and well-drained fertile soil. Rosa Bianca performs best in greenhouses, raised beds, or sheltered areas with consistent heat. Choose a warm, sunny location for optimal growth.

History and Historical Uses
A traditional heirloom from southern Italy, Rosa Bianca has been grown for generations and remains popular among gardeners for its beauty and flavour. In Italian cuisine, it’s a favourite for parmigiana, melanzane, and grilled eggplant dishes.

Canadian Zone Information
Zones 8-9: Transplant outdoors after danger of frost in warm, sheltered location.
Zones 5-7: Start indoors early and transplant to greenhouse or warm patio.
Zones 4: Grow in greenhouse or large containers with protection.

How to Grow and Harvest Rosa Bianca Eggplant

Planting: Start seeds indoors 8–10 weeks before last frost; transplant 45cm (18in) apart.
Watering: Keep soil evenly moist; avoid overwatering to reduce disease risk.
Harvesting: Pick when fruit reach full colour and are glossy and firm.
Maintenance: Stake if needed to support heavy fruit; mulch to conserve heat and moisture.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply

Select Mature Fruit: Allow fruit to over-ripen on the plant until dull and soft.
Extract Seeds: Scoop seeds from pulp, rinse, and remove debris.
Dry and Store: Dry seeds thoroughly and store in a cool, dry place.
Store: Use airtight containers; seeds remain viable for 4–6 years.
