Multiple

The Berry Delicious Collection brings together Sunberry, Goldenberry, Salmonberry, Strawberry Spinach, and Black Cap Raspberry for a bounty of flavour and nutrition. From the deep-purple juice of sunberries to the sweet-tart snap of salmonberries, this assortment delights kids and adults alike. Grow your own berry patch to harvest fresh fruit all season long.

Where Can You Grow
These berries thrive in full sun to light shade with well-drained, fertile soil. Plant in raised beds, fruit cages, or large containers. Provide regular moisture and a layer of mulch to retain soil dampness and suppress weeds.

History and Historical Uses

Sunberry: Developed in Japan in the 1960s, prized for its deep-purple berries and high antioxidant content.

Goldenberry: Native to the Andes, historically eaten fresh or dried, and used in jams and sauces.

Salmonberry: Indigenous to the Pacific Northwest, harvested by coastal First Nations for fresh eating and preserves.

Strawberry Spinach: Known since medieval Europe for edible magenta seed heads and mild, spinach-like leaves.

Black Cap Raspberry: A North American heirloom, valued by early settlers for its intense flavour and medicinal tonic teas.

Canadian Zone Information

Zones 3–9: Direct-sow annuals (sunberry, goldenberry, strawberry spinach) after last frost; plant perennials (salmonberry, raspberry) in spring or fall.

How to Grow and Harvest

Sowing: Sow berry seeds ¼ in deep; keep soil evenly moist.

Spacing: Thin to 12–18 in apart for annuals; space perennials 24–36 in apart.

Support: Provide low-wire supports for trailing sunberries and raspberries.

Harvest: Pick berries when fully coloured and slightly soft to the touch; harvest daily for best flavour.

Seed Saving Tips for Future Supply

Isolation: Keep varieties at least 3 ft apart to prevent cross-pollination.

Collection: Let berries fully ripen; collect seeds by mashing fruit and rinsing away pulp.

Drying & Storage: Spread seeds on paper to dry thoroughly; store airtight in a cool, dark place.
