Seed the Change!

Seeds of Diversity Canada estimates that nearly 75% of vegetable varieties have disappeared. 25% of native plants are at risk and diversity in flower gardens is shrinking.

We are working to restore the biodiversity that was once common in gardens, farms, and nature around Canada!

About Yarrow
Yarrow is a beautiful and resilient native perennial with a long history of traditional use and ecological importance. Its fern-like foliage and flat clusters of small white flowers provide visual interest throughout the growing season, while also attracting a wide range of beneficial pollinators, including bees, butterflies, and predatory insects. A tough plant with deep roots, yarrow thrives in full sun and dry soils but adapts well to various garden conditions. It spreads steadily and can be used to naturalize areas or fill in challenging parts of the garden. Medicinally, yarrow has been used for centuries to treat wounds, inflammation, and fevers.

Where Can You Grow Yarrow?
Yarrow grows best in Zones 3–9 and prefers full sun with well-drained soil. It tolerates drought, poor soil, and exposure once established, making it a great low-maintenance option for gardens, meadows, and roadside plantings.

History and Historical Uses
Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has a long history of use across many cultures for its wound-healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Its Latin name honours Achilles, the Greek hero said to have used yarrow to treat his soldiers’ wounds. It’s also been used as a tea for colds and fevers, and in herbal tinctures for its purported ability to regulate blood flow and ease digestive issues. Beyond its medicinal roles, yarrow was historically valued for its ability to improve soil health and repel pests.
