Kale Mix

Kale Mix

Brassica oleracea

This diverse and vibrant kale mix is a Metchosin Farm original, selected from open-pollinated seedlings grown in our gardens since 2009. It brings together the best traits of Red Russian, White Russian, Lacinato, Rainbow, and sugar beet-derived varieties. Our selections are based on flavour, cold-hardiness, pest resistance, colour, and reliable year-round performance in coastal BC. The result is a delicious, beautiful, and productive green that’s ideal for every kitchen garden.

Where Can You Grow Kale Mix?
Well-suited to Zones 3-9, kale grows best in fertile, well-draining soil with regular watering. This mix thrives in raised beds, containers, and open garden plots. It prefers full sun to partial shade and performs especially well in cooler climates, including mild coastal winters.

History and Historical Uses
Kale has been a staple in home gardens for centuries, valued for its exceptional nutrition and resilience in cold weather. Our Kale Mix continues this legacy with a diverse range of types bred and selected on our farm. This mix honours the traditional importance of leafy greens while adapting to modern growing conditions and climate variability.
