Growing Information

About Tadorna Leek
Tadorna Leek is a reliable and cold-hardy winter variety prized for its ability to hold in the ground through colder months. These leeks are known for producing medium-length, tender white stems with a mild, sweet flavour, perfect for soups, stews, and roasting. By planting into a deep trench and slowly filling it in as the plants grow, gardeners can encourage long, blanched stems and provide extra protection for overwintering. Tadorna is a favourite for home gardeners seeking dependable harvests well into winter.

Where Can You Grow Tadorna Leek?
Best suited to Zones 3–9, Tadorna Leek thrives in rich, moist soil and full sun. It is especially well adapted to gardens in cooler regions and areas with long autumns.

History and Historical Uses
Leeks have been cultivated since ancient times and are a staple in many European cuisines, valued for their subtle onion-like flavour and winter resilience. Tadorna, in particular, is a modern variety bred for improved cold hardiness and a long harvest window, making it a favourite for late season and overwintering crops.
