Seed the Change!

Seeds of Diversity Canada estimates that nearly 75% of vegetable varieties have disappeared. 25% of native plants are at risk and diversity in flower gardens is shrinking.

We are working to restore the biodiversity that was once common in gardens, farms, and nature around Canada!

About Woolly Sunflower
Woolly Sunflower (also known as Eriophyllum lanatum) is a tough and attractive native perennial that thrives in dry, sunny locations. It forms low, spreading mounds of silvery woolly foliage and is covered in cheerful yellow flowers from late spring through summer. A wonderful addition to the native or pollinator garden, this species is ideal for erosion control on slopes, rocky outcrops, and other difficult spots where beauty and durability are both desired.

Where Can You Grow Woolly Sunflower?
Woolly Sunflower is ideal for Zones 4-9. It thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soil, and once established, it requires little to no watering. A top choice for native gardens, wildflower meadows, and coastal landscaping.

History and Historical Uses
This species is widespread along the west coast of North America and was traditionally used by Indigenous peoples for its durability and drought resistance in naturalized landscapes. It has long been admired for its cheerful colour, erosion control capabilities, and ability to support native pollinators like bees and butterflies.
