Seed the Change!
Seeds of Diversity Canada estimates that nearly 75% of vegetable varieties have disappeared. 25% of native plants are at risk and diversity in flower gardens is shrinking.

About Yellow Sand Verbena
Yellow Sand Verbena is a beautiful and rare native perennial that thrives in sandy, dry soils and alpine conditions. Its succulent-like sticky leaves form a spreading ground cover, while clusters of brilliant yellow flowers release a rich tropical gardenia scent. This low-maintenance plant is highly decorative and makes an excellent addition to alpine gardens, native planting schemes, or large containers. It plays an important ecological role as the host plant for the endangered sand verbena moth.
Where Can You Grow Yellow Sand Verbena?
Yellow Sand Verbena grows best in Zones 4-9 in full sun with well-drained sandy soil. Perfect for alpine gardens, native pollinator plantings, and drought-tolerant landscapes.
History and Historical Uses
Once widespread along coastal regions, Yellow Sand Verbena (Abronia latifolia) has seen significant habitat decline. It has historically been appreciated for its beauty and resilience, and now plays an important role in ecological restoration efforts. Its sweetly fragrant blooms make it a standout in any native plant garden.
